Omschrijving

In this two-day workshop, you'll discover Kintsugi: the Japanese art of restoring broken ceramics with Urushi, a natural lacquer, and highlighting the cracks with gold, turning each piece into a one-of-a-kind work of art. Kintsugi is more than repair. Rooted in a philosophy of acceptance and resilience, it celebrates imperfections as meaningful parts of our story. During the workshop, you'll work hands-on with the materials and techniques of traditional Kintsugi while exploring the deeper meaning behind this ancient practice. It's an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and discover beauty in imperfection. Embrace the cracks. Celebrate the journey. Create something beautiful! What's included: - Instruction handouts for Modern Kintsugi - Extra practice pieces for a demonstration of authentic, traditional methods (alongside the piece you repair yourself) What to bring: - One piece of pottery to repair (see guidelines below) - A Tupperware container to take your pottery home, the gold may not be dry yet - A mask - Reading glasses (if you need them) - An apron, or casual clothes you don't mind getting dirty - Since the workshop has no lunch break, we recommend bringing your own lunch to enjoy during the day whenever it suits you. Guidelines for your pottery: Please bring only one piece! The many steps and techniques mean one is plenty. It should be max. 20 cm and fit in your Tupperware. Beginners will find a bowl or cup easier than a plate. Want to use an unbroken piece? Please don't break it yourself, we'll do it together during the lesson. Recommended: - Small bowls or plates - Dark green or blue colors (these complement the gold lines) - A smooth surface Not recommended: - Cups with narrow openings - Unglazed pottery (either side) - Porcelain - Plant pots - Pieces over 20 cm, especially if broken into more than 3 parts Duration workshop: both days from 10:00 to 12:30 This workshop will be conducted in English and will take place with a minimum of 8. No experience is required.
